Jersey Innovative Services is looking for clinical interns – if you would like to strengthen our community while building on skills leading to a social worker, counselor & family therapist come be a part of J.I.S.! Always under a New Jersey board licensed clinician, the clinical supervisor supports interns working towards their master’s graduate degree with 50 approved university sites in Social Work, Counseling and Family Therapy.   

Interns learn about increasing clinical skills, finding resources, learning legal & ethical obligations, building linkages, clinical support practices, treatment planning, team building and advocacy. Interns meet with their supervisor weekly for clinical supervision. Behavioral Assistant Interns are clinical support staff working with a child & family as part of a team collaborating with a care/case manager, licensed clinician and the child’s other team providers within New Jersey towns. Your clinical internship experiences are a stepping stone to a career in mental health work. 

Approved counties when creating a territory, students schedule around their home, university or work within twenty-forty mile radius for home visits. The available New Jersey counties are Bergen, Burlington, Essex, Gloucester, Hudson, Hunterdon, Mercer, Middlesex, Monmouth, Morris, Ocean, Passaic, Somerset, Sussex, Union and Warren.

Our agency population ages are 3 to 20 years old. Children enter our program with moderate to high level mental health needs. Our university clinical internship program focusing on quality of learning. Interns travel to the homes 🏠 of the children. 

Days  
Monday – Friday 3 to 9pm
Saturday & Sunday 9am to 9pm

Hours
8 – 12 direct clinical hours a week
5 – 15 indirect hours a week 

Mental Health programming

Interns need to be 21 yrs or older in NJ
*Must* have a car

Master’s level Intern
Enrolled as a student at a university 
A student in a practicum/internship 
Working with a University Professor

Behavioral Assistant Interns can have a maximum of 10 children/youth/families weekly. Interns earn a JIS internship stipend for clinical work, documentation, shadowing licensed clinicians, office trainings, child family team meetings (CFTs), attending state licensing board meetings and travel to children’s homes. There are multiple opportunities to shadow providers by sitting in on clinical sessions plus attend professional trainings when starting your internship!
